The BK1

I’ve always been one for concept, be it high or low.  As long as you have one, I’m cool with it.  Show me a dumb object that fails to tackle a single problem and I’ll give you my honest opinion. It’s stupid and lame and you’re probably going to make an ass load of money with it and I’ll be left  jealous and full of resentment for the remainder of my life.  It’s that High Concept Goodness that I like.  The stuff that says “Hey, you’d have a better likelihood of beating this guy in an arm wrestling match than being able to afford making me, but if you really want to, you might consider selling your daughter’s virginity.” It’s that kind of project that sparks a bit of the heat in the loins for many of us.

It becomes our Unobtanium. We’ll never have it since they’ll never make it.  Instead, we’re left slack jawed, staring wildly at its complex simplicity, quietly pining over how fast we think we would probably go if they’d just give us 20 minutes on that God forsaken bicycle.

Alas, the Peugeot BK1.  A startlingly aggressive concept bike (and I’m only guessing here) that was more likely designed out of the Peugeot Auto Studio than the Peugeot Bike Studio.  Afterall, a quick look at their current bike lineup might make you wonder if the word “design” is anything other than a harsh formality of process.

Unrelenting in its lack of adjustments, this 22nd century homage to the TT bike (or the Slingshot) is slick. It does what most any object that lends itself to mobility ultimately wants to do.  It screams speed.

Peugeot stepped out on that proverbial limb on this one,  foregoing much of what tradition mandates from our two wheeled steads.  From its cyborg-like prophylactic replacements for tires to the decision to make the rear wheel rely on the (often too familiar) fantastical magnetic-drive connection, Peugeot might have very well given us a glimpse into what might be.

OK, 10 minutes would be cool.
