I grew up in a coffee house where coffee was made one cup at a time with Melitta cones and fresh-ground beans for each cup. Always French Roast. I first remember Zabar’s and the white and orange bags. Then the green bags from Great Northern.

On a not-so-recent trip to Spokane to see David Bryne with SBDII we stopped in at Doma out of Post Falls, Idaho for a little tour.

They are roasting coffee using a new eco – friendly coffee roaster. The Loring Smart System uses 80% less natural gas and greatly reduces the amount of CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere. This roaster helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 39,000 pounds per year : this is the same amount of CO2 which would be released from the combustion of 2000 gallons of gasoline.

I knew we would be friends when I saw the Vignelli calendar on the wall and the tote bags sewn from their bean bags. But what really hooked me is the coffee. Every roast is freakin amazing and the letterpressed bags are fantastic. If you are in the area definitely stop by and if you are into shipping coffee hit em up.

PS. They trade coffee for vinyl.  To find out more about this program, e-mail their vinyl department.
