The Devil’s legal team contacted Pat Robertson earlier today saying, “Mr. Robertson comments about Haiti are in clear violation of a contract he himself signed with the Devil several hundred years ago.” Mr. Devil’s lawyers would not go into detail but it is suspected the disagreement has something to do with Mr. Robertson exchanging his soul for leadership of the eternally stupid.

Jokes aside, let’s pony up friends.

doesn’t get much easier than this one:

Text “Yele” to 501501 to donate $5 on behalf of the Yéle Foundation, the leading contributor to rebuilding Haiti founded by Wyclef Jean

“You see…man ain’t like a dog.  And when I say man, I’m talkin about man as in mankind, not man as in men. Cause men…well, we a lot like a dog”

The Haus of Gaga

gaga

One of my students got me into Lady Gaga last year. She did so by creating a very impressive skirt/back brace-looking contraption (Intro 3-D Design class) made from cardboard and steel and worn with a body suit during critique. It was simultaneously many things: earnest, poignant, erotic, protective; a success both in terms of aesthetics, and the ease with which it stumbled into a discussion surrounding the love-hate relationship between Art and Pop. She credited Lady Gaga as her inspiration.

Aside from her obvious success as a pop-music icon, Lady Gaga is a self-proclaimed performance artist. This is based on pieces like her bloody performance at the VMA’s and her latest Cremaster meets Stepping Up 2 video for Bad Romance.

Gaga herself is generally presented with the awesome and awkward combination of ugly-hot, exuding a certain ‘guaranteed to fuck up your life/Lolita’ quality that makes her quite capable holding ones attention while she presents a somewhat cerebral view of pop celebrity and the inherent beauty in trauma and reconstruction.

1 – Ask Kimbo Slice what’s up with his chest hair. Examples

2 – Or, as my man Jeff from Bike Jerks points out in yesterday’s blog post, keep robbing bikers and pedestrians on the Minneapolis Greenway.

Veterans Day

Veterans

My father just sent me a package: his medals and watch from Vietnam, my great-grandfather’s straight razors, a picture of a relative in uniform from the Civil War, various ranks and insignias from other family members’ time in the service.  The men in my family have fought in every major war since the Revolution; it is one of my greatest sources of pride, and something for which I am eternally grateful.
